Mike Redd gets a controversial win at Watkins Glen

Friday, February 26th   A small field of trucks today at the Watkins Glenn road course.  After qualifing is over found a very happy and surprised John Boneske the driver of the 49 truck.

Jamie Little caught up with John, well your first pole of the year how did you do it?   Laughing I dont know, we were not the fastest in Practice the other trucks had to have had trouble.

Jamie also spoke with the driver of the 94 truck Ben Simmons who was the fastest in practice and sure to get the pole.  What happened Ben??  Well I got into the wall and had a really bad lap.

Race under way and John jumps out in the lead with Ben in 2nd and Mike running 3rd.   On lap 1 the 60 truck of Bob goes for a spin but no damage and keeps going.  Lap 2 lots of things happen on lap 2, the 52 of Jeff gets loose and collecting the 47 of Bobby Rafuse causing severe damage to both trucks, also after Ben takes the lead Mike and John both go for a spin, but no damage to either truck.

Lap 18 the 00 of Mike on very old tires spins and brings out the caution for the 1st time.  All trucks pit for some very needed new tires and fuel.  Green flag back under way with the 94 leading the way and on his way for a sure win.

After green flag pits Ben still leading the way, Reports say for track position the 00 took fuel only and found out this was a bad decision.  Green flag still under way with the 94 truck of Ben with a huge lead over all the trucks, but at lap 33 theres a problem!!!

Ben reports I have a bad vibration and had to make a unexpected pitstop giving the lead to a very surprised field especially to the 00 of Mike Redd finding himself in the lead.

Ben obviously very upset on the radio we have been in contention to win 3 weeks in a row and something has happened.  But wait remember the 00 did not take tires and the 49 truck of John is closing fast.  On the last lap John is faster but this track is very hard to pass and he did not want to bump mike and move him.  John "I dont drive like that".

Checkered flag in the air and the 00 takes a very exciting win.

Jamie caught up with the driver of the 00 ford Mike Redd.  Well you did it!!  Mike: "WOW I did not deserve that win Ben had the dominant truck.  I'm not sure what happened to him but it was his race to loose!!!
